To bra, or not to bra, that is the question!
Mesh and feathers make for a very sexy combo- just ask Rihanna, so when I saw this Glitter Betty Mesh Crop Top, I just had to have it. And then presents itself my newly found dilemma: to bra or not to bra. So granted, ‘not to bra’ isn’t exactly an option for me because I unfortunately don’t have the most modest of breasts or otherwise known as “fashion boobs”, but I would have still dared to risk it all in the laciest bra I own, nip ring in full view of unsuspecting bystanders. Sometimes I just like to flirt with the idea of #freethenipple.
However, the sad truth is that we live in a world where breasts are sexualised, whether you’re walking around tits out or breastfeeding a baby. So yeah, we can totally walk around topless to no end but I doubt that will bring about any desensitisation. Women’s bodies are sadly still being policed by austerity, double standards and misogyny.
These pics were shot by my mom and even though she’s pretty liberal, wearing this top with just a bra made her slightly uncomfortable and I totally get it, I also wasn’t in the mood to be cat-called by ignorant minds with nil respect for women. It’s not that one is uncomfortable in their own skin but rather that other people make you feel like you should feel uncomfortable.
Next time I won’t be so modest, just saying!
Just as a side note I thought I’d try out the beret thing since it’s the latest fad. It’s cute and stuff but I don’t think I’ll be adopting this trend. It’s just not for me.
PSA: I know I say this all the time but I’m trying my level best to keep consistent with my posts. Juggling work, school and a blog is a tall order but if not me then who?
